Five Things You Can Do for Your Tires and Wheels
When thinking about your car, truck, or utility vehicle’s maintenance, don’t forget about the tires and wheels. HRS AutoCare can help you keep these things in tiptop shape so you get as many miles out of your set of tires as possible. There are five specific things that help extend the life of your tires. We are going to talk about these things below. You can play a role in your tire maintenance to ensure that your tires last as long as possible. Here’s what we are talking about.
1. Tire Air Check
One thing that you can do is to check the air pressure in each tire frequently. Every two weeks to once a month are good rules of thumb. Make certain that each tire is inflated to the recommended PSI that is specified on the sticker found inside the driver’s door. Don’t drive too long on underinflated tires. This will cause the tire tread on the tire edges to wear down. It’s also important that you avoid overinflating your tires. This can damage the inside of the tires and cause uneven center tread wear.
2. Tire Inspection
Another thing that you can do is to inspect each tire when you check the air pressure. Look carefully at the tires to see if you notice anything that looks strange. You might see spots of uneven tire tread wear or bubbles on the side of the tires. You may also find nails, screws, or other objects in the tire tread. If anything looks out of sorts, bring your vehicle to our shop for a tire inspection.
3. Tire Rotation
Plan to have the tires rotated per your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation to ensure you get a long life out of the set. We can rotate your tires at either of our auto service shops in Kentucky. Tire rotations keep your tires healthy and gripping the road.
4. Wheel Balance
It’s also important to have the wheels balanced so they do not begin to shake and vibrate. Balancing the wheels ensures that their weight remains even across your car, truck, or utility vehicle’s axles.
5. Wheel Alignment
Finally, there will come a time when your wheels need to be aligned. This is usually every two years. This being said, you might knock your wheels out of alignment if you hit a curb or go through a pothole too fast. Call HRS AutoCare in Nicholasville, KY to schedule a tires service appointment if your tires and wheels are overdue for maintenance.
